For the past 2 weeks we have been making a film. It is caled Tá Ocras Orm. It is a comhrá between a boy called Rossa + his Dad. Rossa makes a jam sandwich for himself just as Dad is preparing the dinner. Click here to see the film + find out what happens.

Row 2 (pictured below) won were the winning row at the end of weeks 3/4. They finished with 577 points. Row 4 finished in 2nd place with a total of 571 points. It was very close in the end. Row 2 get tonight off homework and row 4 get an item off! The rows have been changed around and we start all over again.
Today we skyped Clare Island.A boy called Ciaran told us about the tower on Clare Island. A girl called leanne told us about the church and the Abbey. Theo told us about the cross-country running. The teacher brought the camera outside to show us some of the other islands surrounding Clare Island. We saw Inishturk and Cahir. We also saw Croagh Patrick and the 12 Pins. It was beatiful scenerey. At the end both classes sang Ó Ró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile! We really enjoyed our first Skype with another school. They have invited us down for our school tour! We'd all love to go!
We had our first Skype call today. We called Ms Jones class in school. It was a practice call in preparation for our call to Clare Island National school tomorrow morning. We had great fun talking to Ms Jones boys. A number of other teachers popped in to join in the conversation!
Luis had great news for us today. His team had a great win against Confey last night. They won 15-12 and Luis played a captains part. Luis and some of his team are pictured below.
Today we learned a song about Grainne Mhaoil from Clare Island. Its called Ó Ró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile. We learned the Chorus and the Second Verse. The words are printed below. The boys are currently completing projects on Clare Island. They have been very busy researching and preparing their projects. The first completed project arrived in today. Loughlins excellent project is pictured below! Well done Loughlin.

The boys have predicted that Donegal will beat Kerry and win the All Ireland on Sunday!! Winner will get a night off homework Monday! We set up a twitter account it is called @rang4snam. Yesterday we voted to follow one famous person, BRIAN O' DRISCOLL won.So we followed him. Later that day Mr. Minnock checked our twitter account and BRIAN O' DRISCOLL tweeted us and he said I feel honoured. We were very surprised. We hope to get more tweets. Well done to Alex, Darragh and Sean who also had brilliant Mascots! The Disco Bear wil appear on the Website very soon as the official Website Mascot As the Scottish people voted in their millions on its independence, friends and family of the Rang4SnaM boys voted in their hundreds for the Mascot which will be used on our website! Grannies , Grandads, Aunties, Uncles friends and work colleagues were all canvassed over the past 2 weeks. 248 votes were cast in all and only 10 votes separated 1st and 2nd place with 3rd and 4th only a short distance behind. This week we caught up with Niall O Regan who will play Mini 7's football at half time of the All Ireland final this Sunday! Niall was interviewed by Alex, Eoghan and Kieran to find out how preparations for his big day are going!! Today we learned about the Aran Islands, Inis Mór, Inis Meain and Inis Oirr. We went on a virtual trip across Ireland with Mr Mescal (a pilot aswell as a teacher!) on a flight from Weston to the Islands landing on each of the three islands. Recorded by Noel Connolly (our cycling teacher this year) the clips show beautiful images of Ireland and the islands from above.
The 1st clip can be viewed HERE and the 2nd clip HERE On Friday last week row 1 were crowned class champs. We finished the fortnight with 1460 points. We got pionts for good work and good behaviour. Runners up were row 2 on 1324. As a reward we get a night off homework and an item off the next day. 2nd place get an item off homework tonight. We are pictured below with the trophy we won which we get to keep for the next two weeks!
Today we made a survey of how the boys traveled to school. We learned how to take a tally. We presented our results in a pictogram. View our results in the picture below. Tomorrow we will survey classes from 3rd to 6th to find out how they travelled to school.

Today we won our yard trophy for third and fourth classes. We won because we were the best at lining up.For winning the yard trophy we also got fifteen minutes extra playtime.
In class today we learned about habitats. A habitat is a place where animals live. In Scoil Na Mainistreach we have our very own Bug Hotel. Many diferent types of insects live in the bug hotel. Today we visited the Bug Hotel (pictures below). We saw beetles, bees, millipeeds, a dragon fly, worms and spiders. Information on the Scoil Na Mainistreach Bug Hotel can be found by Clicking Here
Today we learned some Key Maths Words found in problem solving questions. Some words relate to addition some to subtraction. See examples in the pictures below.

We are delighted to announce that there has been a massive response to our Mascot competition. 102 votes are in with the vote being very close. There are a number of people who have said they still wish to vote so we have decided to extend the deadline for voting. The new closing date for entries will be next Monday morning 15th September at 9.30 am.
