Yesterday we set out for Kingstown to get the boat to America. When the big ship called the Naripama pulled in to the harbour it was already almost full. The Captain of the ship, Captain Carney spoke to us and promised to take 3 of us. We begged him to bring us. He selected the 3 passengers. He refused to take people with diseases. The 2 he picked had young family on board or other family in America. The last person he picked was a stranger who arrived at the last minute. It was Captain Carneys brother. He couldn't leave him behind. We were not happy. He has promised to return in one month and bring us to America.

Bhí bean ag Joe
Is bhí banjo ag Joe Is bhí banjo ag bhean Joe B'fhearr go deo Joe ar an mbanjo Ná bean Joe ar an mbanjo go deo. Last week we learned about Data collection, Statistics averages and how to present our findings. On Friday we put our learning to use. We watched the Sunday Game highlights of Dublin V Mayo the drawn game. In groups we recorded the numbers of handpasses, frees, tackles, turnovers, kickouts, scores and kickpasses for each team. We recorded the data using a tally system and presented our findings using multiple bar charts. The results of each can be seen in the bar charts below. It was a very interesting way to look at the game. We can see that it is a very intense job and the person doing this job on a match day has a very responsible job.
Many boys from the class featured on yesterdays news report on RTE News2day. The cameras along with presenter Gill Stedman came to the school on Tuesday. They reported on the work Concern Superheroes do in helping people in the developing world. By Ciaran Kirwan and Adam Cooney A lady from a charity called Concern came to our class. Her name was Claire. Claire told us what Concern does. Concern flies over to poor countries like Ethiopia, Malawi and other developing countries. Concern helps the farmers in the developing countries instead of just giving them food and leaving them, as the food would be eaten very quickly. The most common reason for farmers being unable to produce enough food is drought. Drought causes rivers to dry up and drought causes no rain to fall, meaning that the farmer’s crops won’t get water and will wither and die. The main cause for drought is global warming or climate change. Concern wants to stop global warming to help farmers and stop drought. Global warming in Ireland is mainly caused by food waste or putting food in the general waste bin. The rubbish in a general waste bin goes to a huge mound called a landfill. If food is put in a landfill it breaks down with the rest of the rubbish and releases a flammable gas called methane, which goes up into the atmosphere and breaks the protective layer which keeps us safe from the suns deadly UV rays. We can help the farmers in developing countries and stop global warming by not putting food in the general waste bin and instead putting the food in the compost bin/natural waste bin or by using the food in compost to help plants grow. We can also help by recycling or reusing plastic, cardboard and paper. Our poem for this week is The Sound Collector by Roger McGough. Click on the link below to open.
