On Thursday Ciaran from Leixlip fire station came to give a talk about fire safety. He gave us advice on what to do if a fire happened. His motto was Get Out, Stay Out, Get the fire brigade out. Make a plan in case a fire starts. Get a fire assembly point outside. At night plug out all electrical items so that it is less likely to happen. We really enjoyed the talk and we feel a lot safer around fires thanks to Ciaran advice.

Quiz On the weekend I visited my Granny and Granddad. I was talking with them about 1916 and my Granddad remembered that he had a Webly that had been given to him by my great, great Granddad's friend who used it in the GPO in 1916 . We looked it up in class this morning and the gun I think is a Mark 1. In the next few weeks I hope to find out more information about the gun and the man who used it . Aaron
Last night boys looked up information on the buildings used during the 1916 Rising. Some great information and interesting facts were reported to the class today on Boland's Mill, Jacobs Biscuit Factory, Dublin Castle, Liberty Hall and The Four Courts.
Some boys found out that relatives of theirs had worked in the biscuit factory while another relative of a boy was killed while going to Boland's Mill to get bread. Tonight boys are going to research some of the people involved in the build up to and during rising. We watched part of the RTE documentary on 1916 in class and identified some key people. The leaders identified are Group 1: Padraig Pearse and John Redmond Group 2: John Devoy and Thomas Clarke Group 3: Countess Marckievickz Group 4: James Connoly and Eoin McNeill Thomas McDonagh and Roger Casement The boys have started to learn about the 1916 Rising this week. We have begun by looking at the background and over the next few weeks will learn about various aspects of the ising.
The boys next project will be on the Rising and will be due in on Monday 14th March. Projects can be on any aspect of 1916, the events, leaders or individuals who took part in it.
Sat 6th February is a date we will never forget. We preformed in the R.D.S in front of 7,500 people. The night turned out to be better than we imagined. The stage was massive. The crowd was huge and we all felt a little nervous at the beginning.
Once the singing started all the nerves went away.Greg Beardsell was our conductor and he made us feel very confident. Having the Cross Border Orchestra playing the music was very special. One of the highlights of the night was during the song Imagine (See Below) the people in the audience put on the lights on their phones as we were singing. Our parents ,families and friends who came to see us singing all really enjoyed the show. DVD' s of the show have been ordered and we look forward to watching it when it arrives. For now we have the memories of a brilliant night and we look forward to doing it all again next year. See a below couple of short video clips that we found on Twitter capturing some of the magic of the night. Thanks in particular to Graham Mulcahy for the Imagine Video which captures the magic of the audience response and Pat Hayes for Irelands Call.
Today we were allowed pick the four balls for the lotto. The numbers drawn were 26, 13, 28, 10 and the boys who picked the balls were Ross, Jamie L, Alex and Oisin. You can see the pictures that we took below.
The big day is almost here. After months of practice we are finally ready to perform on the big stage in the R.D.S.
We will meet in the school tomorrow at 4.15. We must wear a white shirt and dark trousers. On stage we will be sitting in the Green Section. This will help our parent and friends know where we are on stage and if they want to pick seats in front of the green section they should have a better view. The show starts at 8.pm and will be over at 10.20pm. We hope to be back at school by 11.30.pm. We look forward to a great night and we hope you enjoy every minute of it. P.S. When we return to Scoil Na Mainistreach boys can be collected from Bus 20. Anyone looking for any last minute tickets can log on to the Peace Proms Website |
