I wrote to Brendan Gleeson because he is a brilliant actor. He played in Harry Potter the forth movie. I chose him because he is funny and scary. I wrote to Brendan a few days ago and I got this picture back from him. I was very happy with the picture and the autograph.
Last Tuesday I got a letter back from Tj Reid. We got to write to our favourite famous person so I picked Tj Reid. The reason I picked him is because I think he is the best hurler ever. I was delighted when I got a birthday card back from him. At first I wondered how he knew it was my birthday. But then knew it was my grandparents. I was very proud of my card from Tj Reid.
The Sliabh na mBan was an armoured car used by the British army. When Ireland won independence we bought 13 from the British . One of them The Big Fella was used to protect Michael Collins on his travels. The car that visited us in school is a replica built by Leixlip historian Dennis McCarthy and local Councillor Anthony Larkin. They brought the car into the school on Friday morning and everybody in the school came out to see it. Dennis gave talks to all the classes explaining the history of the car and how they made the replica. He had a lot of interesting facts and information. It was brilliant to see it and made a special day even more memorable.
Two weeks ago our class wrote to famous people. We have got two replies so far. We have got a letter back from Michael D Higgins and Shane Long. Our class mascot Disco Bear was delighted with all the letters from famous people. We have learned so much about writing letters. We are still waiting for some more to come back. For more information click here to go to the Disco Bear page.

Planning for Active School Week 2016 is underway. It will take place in Scoil Na Mainistreach from the 9th to 13th May. 4th Class boys will be helping teachers organise the week which was a huge success last year. The ASW initiative is about providing FUN and INCLUSIVE physical activity opportunities for ALL members of the school community. It allows schools to reinforce the message that not only is physical activity good for you but it also very enjoyable. It provides schools with an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the physical activity opportunities that are available in their locality and to work collaboratively with students, parents and members of the community. If any parents feel they could contribute to the organisation of or running of an event during Active Week, email Mr Minnock at [email protected] and I will get in contact with you. |
