The Sliabh na mBan was an armoured car used by the British army. When Ireland won independence we bought 13 from the British . One of them The Big Fella was used to protect Michael Collins on his travels. The car that visited us in school is a replica built by Leixlip historian Dennis McCarthy and local Councillor Anthony Larkin. They brought the car into the school on Friday morning and everybody in the school came out to see it. Dennis gave talks to all the classes explaining the history of the car and how they made the replica. He had a lot of interesting facts and information. It was brilliant to see it and made a special day even more memorable.
