Yesterday Tommy Brennan the owner of Pain and Performance Clinic came into our school and talked to us about running a business as part of our Junior Entrepreneur Programme.
First he talked to us about why he set up the physio. He said all his life he wanted to be a teacher but about two years into it he decided that he wanted to be a physio. Because he was a Gaelic footballer, he suffered many injuries and went to many physios. So he set up a Physiothearpy Clinic near Liffey Valley shopping centre, then another in Leixlip and now another here in Celbridge.
He told us that In the first six months of a business, you will be in the negative, for the next six months you will be making a small bit of profit, for the second year you should be making good profit.
Tommy's three ways of marketing are Word of Mouth, Social Media and refer a friend. Refer a friend is when someone tells you about Pain and Performance Clinic, they are entered into a draw to win a prize.
The main advice Tommy gave us was to enjoy what you do, be good at what you do, have a good location, be nice to customers and staff and have a good plan.
We were delighted to have Tommy as our business visitor. What we have taken away from his visit is that if we were to expand our business, we should sit down and talk to an advisor ànd we should get some advice about expanding to other locations too.
