On the day of the Haloween Holidays the boys came to school dressed up in some very frightening costumes! We recorded some of our Monster Medley songs with Ms Smith and Mr Curtins class. Click on the links below and download to view beginning withthe Adams Family, then The Blob, followed by Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and lastly Ghostbusters
Last month the school introduced a new paired reading programme for boys from Senior Infants to 4th Class. It involves boys reading a library book at home with an adult for at least 10 minutes 4 evenings a week. The boys will have a reading sheet to be signed each night after reading. Below are copies of the letter sent out to parents outlining the programme and the reading record sheet which the boys should have.
Mary Shaw has reminded us that the collection date for the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal is next Monday. Mary would like from an organising point of view if boys could have them all in school on Friday if at all possible.
He guaranteed us he would finish in the Top 3 when he came to visit us last Thursday. Not only did he finish in the top 3 but Eliud Too won the Dublin City Marathon in a time of 2 Hours 14 Minutes and 47 Seconds. The friendly Kenyan and his coach, past pupil Neil Fleming, made a lasting impression on the boys of Scoil Na Mainistreach. Having listened to them explain the preparation involved for todays Marathon, nobody in rang4snam is surprised that Eliud claimed victory today.
He started running when he was 9 years of age, the same age as many boys in the class and ran to and from school every day. He joined up with Neil in the USA who has helped turn him from 3000M Steeplechaser into Marathon Champion. We have no doubt that the world will hear more about Eliud in the future. We in rang4snam look forward to hearing from Eliud via Skype from Kenya in the near future to tell us about his magnificent achievement. Another Marathon champion who wont be as far away as Kenya from us is Mr Tyrrell. He taught the boys of rang4snam when they were in junior infants and today he completed his first ever Marathon. A brilliant achievement and excellent example to the boys of what can be achieved when skill is combined with hard work and determination. The two Marathon Champions are pictured together above. Below Eliud is pictured with members of the class and our Mascot Disco Bear, who having helped guide the U-9 footballers to glory last week has now proved to be a lucky charm for our friend from Kenya, Eliud Too. Boys can tomorrow come to school in their Halloween Costumes. We will have pics on the web of the boys dressed up!
On saturday disco bear went to Tipperary with the U9 Celbridge GAA.
Click here to visit our disco bear page to hear all about disco bear's day in Tipperary. We started learning a new song called the Monster Medley. Its a medley of four songs Addams Family , The Blob , Attack of the Killer Tomtoes and Ghostbusters. Its a fun and spooktacular song. The song and the words are on the Peace Proms page.
I was interviewed on KFM radio with Fergus McFadden. The reporter asked me how the Wasps game would go, I said it would go well . Fergus asked me what position I play in. I told him I play 2nd row . He signed my ball and Jersey. It was very exciting to meet such a brilliant player for Leinster & Ireland.
Last Saturday I, Kieran Rubotham, won tackler of the week in Barnhall.
Barnhall rugby is on Saturdays at nine o'clock. We had to practice our scrums and line outs and most important tackling. First we started tackling each other then we went to a bag and drive it back. Then we played a match. I got four tackles and three line outs then at the end when we stopped the coach thanked us for coming down and playing and thanked the parents for taking us down and then he collected the bibs and then he gave out the trophy and I was picked for tackler of the week.I felt delighted to hear my name called out. I have worked hard and trained hard too. I brought the trophy in to school and we got a picture of the trophy. I have to bring it back tomorrow. Disco Bear has finally arrived everybody! On the 16/10/2014 the one and only Disco Bear gave us a huge surprise because our teacher said there was a new pupil of the class. Then we heard a bang on the window and we looked back and we saw....... "Disco Bear". Our teacher said he is staying for the whole year of 4th class. We were so happy when we heard that and now he resides on the projecter. He will be going on many trips in and out through the year and is already booked on a trip to Tipperary with the Celbridge U-10s this weekend while he will be spending Halloween in Basle!
He will have a page about himself on the website that we will update regularly with stories and pictures of his many adventures!! Today we got to use the new scooters for the first time. We played Unihoc with them. As you will see in the pictures below the boys really enjoyed themselves. Using the scooters helps to improve balance and coordination. The boys very quickly learned how to propell themselves around the hall using their feet. The boys can look forward to more games and activities using the scooters during the year ahead.
This year we will be taking part in the Peace Proms, a choral education Project for Primary Schools and delivered by the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. We will perform in a concert with the CBOI in the RDS along with other pupils from around the country.
We began practicing our songs today and the first song we are learning is called Let It Go from the movie Frozen. We have a Peace Proms Page opened on our own site which includes more information on the concert. The songs and lyrics are also available there for downloading to help the boys when practicing at home. It will be important that boys practice the songs at home as often as possible even if not specifically assigned for homework. It promises to be a memorable experience for the boys and January 31st a night to remember in the RDS for family and friends. Row 4 ( pictured below )were the winning row for the last 2 weeks. They finished with a total of 446 points. They now get a night off homework tonight. In second place was Row 1 with 332 points. They can take a subject off tonight.
The #anfomhar project we took part in last week has now finished. We took pictures of Signs of Autumn we noticed around the Celbridge area. It was a very enjoyable project and great fun to be part of. We would like to thank everyone who helped us to take part in this project our parents, minders, brothers, sisters, Grannies and Grandads etc. Without them we would not have the beautiful collection of photographs on our #anfomhar page.
Seomra Ranga who organised the project have put together a compilation of all the #anfomhar tweets from arount the country. Our tweets are included in a chirpstory. To view them click on http://www.seomraranga.com/2014/10/signs-of-autumn-2014-twitter-project-review/ and follow the link on their page. The boys in Scoil Na Mainistreach will once again be taking part in our annual Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. Each year boys have an opportunity to give a gift to some of the poorest children in the world. The boys have each been given a flyer with details of how to take part.
