Michael and Cameron from our class played for the school football team v Clane today. Like all the team they played very well but lost to an excellent Clane team. Adam and Cillian our class photographers were on hand to capture some pictures of the game from the ground and the air. Check out the excellent photographs in the gallery below
Thanks to Adam with his expert Drone flying skills we managed to capture this fantastic image of Scoil Na Mainistreach and the surrounding area today.
A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey Put every sound into a bag And carried them away The whistling of the kettle The turning of the lock The purring of the kitten The ticking of the clock The popping of the toaster The crunching of the flakes When you spread the marmalade The scraping noise it makes The hissing of the frying pan The ticking of the grill The bubbling of the bathtub As it starts to fill The drumming of the raindrops On the windowpane When you do the washing-up The gurgle of the drain The crying of the baby The squeaking of the chair The swishing of the curtain The creaking of the stair A stranger called this morning He didn't leave his name Left us only silence Life will never be the same Roger McGough. 6th Class boys today placed a Scoil na Mainistreach sticker over Brussels on our Tour Of Europe Challenge Map. Today marks the end of the European Week of Sport and we felt it would be best to run to Brussels on the final day.
Our Tour of Europe has been a great success with boys from Infants to 6th Class running the 330m Lap of the school every day. So far the boys have together run 9,876 laps of the school which is a total of 3,292Km. We have completed the distances from Dublin to London, Dublin to Paris, Dublin to Madrid and over the last 2 days Dublin to Brussels. We will continue this Challenge as a school into the future. Some Long Multiplication Questions to follow up on today's work in class.
Q1. 324 x 17 Q2. 517 x 26 Q3. 438 x 32 Q4. 622 x 54 Q5. 643 x 27 Q6. 582 x 43 · How does Omri bring about a truce between Boone and Little Bear? Was it a good plan?
· Why does Omri let Little Bear and Boone fight without weapons? · Would you have taken both of the live figures to school? Why or why not? Foreshortening is when something looks like it is coming toward you because of a change in size. We did some drawings in Art of a boy falling showing the idea of Foreshortening. His feet and hands are bigger than his body and appear closer to anyone looking at the picture.
The Boys from Senior Infants to 6th Class are engaging in a daily program of Physical Activity for the next 3 weeks. The Tour of Europe Challenge is an initiative promoted by Sport Ireland, encouraging pupils to put on their running shoes and visit some famous landmarks around Europe. In Scoil Na Mainistreach, Boys run a lap of the school which equals just over 330metres. Droichead, Infants and 1st Classes run 1 Lap, 2nd Class 2 laps, 3rd Class 3 laps (1Km), 4th Class 4 laps, 5th Class 5 laps and 6th Class 6 laps (2Km). We in 6th class have taken on the organising of the Tour and are recording the no. of laps run by each class and converting into Kilometres. Each European city has been measured from Dublin and daily targets are set by the 6th class boys. Our Tour of Europe Map is on display on the school corridor and the cities reached are marked with a sticker of the Scoil Na Mainistreach Crest.
For our art we focused on the Mona Lisa. Everyone in the class got a fraction of the portrait and copied it down on to a bit of paper. The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. The Mona Lisa is based off a woman that goes by the name of Madam Lisa Giocondo. Did you know Leo Da Vinci didn't put in the eyebrows on Mona Lisa. Mona Lisa Projects
Each month the boys sign a reading contract. The agreement is that boys who read 3 or more books will get a night off homework. The September contract is well under way with many boys on their 3rd book already.
